Opera Cultura visits Spain
January 05, 2014The music of and dance of Spain filled the majestic Mexican Heritage Theater at the School of Arts and Culture @ MHP in San Jose last September. The concert marked the beginning of a new concert series - Zarzuela and Beyond.
Guest artist La Tania, an internationally recognized Flamenco and Spanish dancer and choreographer, performed two dance pieces. One of the pieces, titled La Mujer Tormentada ( The Tormented Woman), was especially written for her by composer and artistic director Hector Armienta.
Sorpano Alexandra Sessler, who was recently awarded Opera Cultura's Marina Koshetz Fellowship Award, sang some of the most well known arias in the Zarzuela repertoire. Hector Armienta served as pianist.
We will be presenting Spanish language arias from other composers at the 2015 Zarzuela and Beyond concert. We hope to see you there!
