Armienta's Cuentos goes to Washington D.C

April 01, 2015

Hector Armienta's Cuentos De Peregrinacíon has been selected to be part of Opera America's New Works Showcase in May 2015 in Washington D.C. . Opera companies from throughout the country and Europe attend the annual conference and showcase. Excerpts from the work will be performed by Soprano Alexandra Sessler , Mezzo Soprano Guadalupe Peraza, tenor Andrew McLaughlin.
Cuentos premiered at San Jose's Mexican Heritage Theater in 2014 and later at Guadalajara's majestic Degollado Opera House.  The song cycle opera retells the heart wrenching and true stories of immigrants coming from Mexico and living in the US.  The text, for the most part, are transcriptions of their stories.

"It is a great honor to have Cuentos be part of the New Works Showcase. What is most gratifying for me, is that these stories ( testimonials) will be shared on a national level and hopefully be part of the continuing dialogue about immigrant rights",  Hector Armienta Composer/Librettist
