Against all odds - A Mexican American Opera

October 09, 2015

Should a Mexican American novel ( written in English) to be turned into an opera?

Even though the novel BLESS ME, ULTIMA was written by one of the foremost Mexican American novelists in the country (Rudolfo Anaya), received national acclaim, and been turned into a movie, no major opera company has sought to develop it into an opera.

My question to them is how can we neglect one of the  largest audiences in the country - Latino Americans who are primarily English speakers.

However, with the support of a few visionary funders, I have been developing Mr. Anaya's epic novel into an opera.  Soon, I will be reaching out to individuals to support the remainder of the commission, which is critical toward completing the work.

But I have faith.  I believe when you dream big, others will dream with you. They will empower you. I look forward to the 2018 premiere and sharing that moment with those that made it possible.
